Basic Research

Our research laboratory focuses on diseases of the pancreas - with a special focus on pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer.

The central aim of our working group is to uncover the precise genetic and molecular mechanisms underlying pancreatitis and how pancreatitis and other risk factors such as obesity contribute to pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC).

To achieve these aims we apply in vitro and ex vivo studies in diverse models including established cell lines, primary cells from our biobank and in vivo studies in humanized pancreatitis and unique PDAC mouse models. We use a broad range of methods, ranging from numerous cell and molecular biology methods to NGS based approaches with a strong focus on sc/snRNAseq and spatial transcriptomics analysis.

We work in cooperation with numerous local, national and international groups and most of our projects are closely embedded within the Research Training Group (RTG) 2751 InCuPanC and the MikroPank consortium.

Topics for medical doctoral thesis, master thesis and research group internships - embedded in our research projects – are regularly available for human medicine, biology, biochemistry and chemistry students. Interested student are welcome contacting directly:
